Foundations of the Arts in Communities
|Lecture hours per week|
|Lab hours per week|
This course helps us capture the “why” of this program. Delivered as a week-long intensive, the course introduces the concepts and context for the program as a whole, including terms, definitions, the current climate in the sector, and a brief history of arts education and community arts practice. Particular focus will be paid to group communication, team-building, and reflective processes.
Each year, this course is delivered in-part by a curator, who offers a theme or area of approach that guides the work of the week. That curator is matched with the course instructor to ensure that the experiences of the week are arts-based, using the curator’s own artistic or educational practice as a springboard.
