Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week
Course Availability: Open
Description:

This course explores the tension between individual and social constructions of identity by examining the narratives that individuals construct about themselves in relation to the narratives ‘society’ constructs about their various social identities. The psychological, social and material impacts of socially constructed identities are located within historical, political, cultural, and economic contexts. Central to this course is a consideration of how power, privilege, representation, minoritization, hybridization and technology influences conceptions of self, othering, values and ethics; and how these strands coalesce to give meaning to one’s life purpose and goals.
