Description: This course provides a basic introduction to layout and desktop publishing. The goal of this course is to help students develop the skills they need to produce good-looking newspaper pages that also reflect sound news judgment. The course will be divided into two main units: preparing the dummy sheet and designing pages using QuarkXPress. By the end of the first six weeks, students should be able to put together a "dummy" that a production staffer can convert into a real newspaper page. They should also be able to write headlines that fit — and say something, too. *Minimum C grade required
