Ryerson, Centennial and George Brown Collaborative Nursing Degree

This page is designed for students in our four-year collaborative nursing degree program with Ryerson University.

New Students: Please be advised that more detailed information about clinical placement will be given out on Orientation Day. You are required to meet certain medical and non-medical requirements in order to attend clinical placement which takes place during the second semester of your first year. These requirements will be provided to you upon acceptance within your Welcome Package. Your form includes a due date to submit your requirements. We strongly advise that you start the process of completing your requirements as soon as you have accepted the offer to the program.

Medical Requirements: Please take the Clinical Pre-Placement Health form to your doctor to have him or her complete.

Police Checks: Must be issued within six months of every placement start date. Ensure this is up-to-date prior to each placement semester. For a Fall (September) semester start date the VSS must be issued from March 1st onwards, for a Winter (Jan) placement start date the VSS must be issue from July 1st onwards and for a Summer placement the VSS must be issued from November 1st onwards.

If you have a postal code that begins with ‘M’, you will print the Toronto Vulnerable Sector Police Check form (#1) and mail into the Toronto Police Headquarters. Ensure you follow the step-by step Toronto Vulnerable Sector Police Check Guide document (#2) to ensure you complete the form correctly, so it is not returned to you, which may result in not clearing on time. This process of obtaining your Vulnerable Sector Police Check can take 6-8 weeks to obtain. Ensure your printer is set to normal-dark setting to ensure witness signature is clear and legible.

All other regions other than Toronto may view the Frequently Visited Police Regions document (#3) for steps to apply online to your region. Letters from the college may be required with your application. I have included the commonly requested region letters. Student will download the form, complete the fields, save to your computer, and submit with your application.

Students under 18 years of age: You cannot obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police check until you turn 18 years old. Please contact ParaMed and notify them of your age. Paramed will have students sign a waiver, so you can be provided with a temporary exemption to attend placement. Paramed will notify Centennial College of your status, so we may update the placement site. You will need to submit a Vulnerable Sector Police Check to ParaMed once you turn 18-years-old.

Standard First Aid: This certification is recommended but not mandatory.

CPR - HCP: Please ensure that you take the Health Care Provider Level or BLS level course. A blended option is acceptable; however, an online only course is not valid. There must be an in-class component.

All mask fit testing will be performed by a trained technician in our Health Studies Lab.
