Festival Printing is a company that provides custom apparel printing services and printed clothing for men, women, and kids. Festival Printing asked their Design Jam team to help them develop and test their website and order management system. The graduates taking on this project are: Claudia Feliciano Torres (Software Engineering Technician), Rucha Bothre (Software Engineering Technician), and Xinghan Wang (Game-Art).
Illustrious Comics is an indie comic hub, featuring dozens of indie comics from individual creators and larger independent publishers. Illustrious Comics challenged their Design Jam team to use analytics to determine what niche or target market they should focus on, and then assist in the creation of a title that meets that need. This project will be taken on by: Akshay Sharma (Event Management), Rolla Farhat (Fashion Business and Management), and Soyeon Lee (Software Engineering Technician).
Real Food for Real Kids
Real Food for Real Kids (RFRK) is a healthy catering company serving child care centers, elementary schools, and camps in the greater Toronto area. They are looking for Design Jam participants to aid them organize and map out the production streams of all their recipes to identify opportunities to increase efficiency. Working on this project are: Carla Oki (Business Supply Chain & Operations), Kajal (Food Science Technology), and Nisha Rani (Biotechnology Advanced).
SmartPoolSaver Inc. is a startup looking to create a new smart home device to aid in the management and maintenance of a home pool. The Design Jam participants will be responsible for the design, development and testing of prototypes of the device as well as the creation of a companion app for the device. The graduates tasked with this project are: Raveen Prasanna (Electromechanical Engineering Technician: Automation and Robotics), Dhaval Bhimani (Electronics Engineering Technician/Electromechanical Engineering Technician: Automation and Robotics), and Tirthrajsinh Chauhan (Mobile Application Development/Software Engineering Technician).
Unplug Electronics is startup looking to create an innovative smart home device that eliminates household standby power consumption. Unplug Electronics challenged their Design Jam participants to create and test a prototype device. The graduates working on this project are: Baljit Kaur (Electronics Engineering Technician), and Colin Yau (Interactive Media Management).
Career Services Career Services at Centennial College also had a project for Design Jam this semester. Their project for Design Jam is to do a complete inventory of all co-curricular opportunities offered at Centennial College, and then create resources that highlight all the co-curricular offerings and the employment skills these opportunities developed. The graduates working on this project are: Boby Thomas (Software Engineering Technology), Laxmi Pandey Dahal (Business Accounting), and Manveen Bhullar (Event Management).
After Breast Cancer
After Breast Cancer is a non-profit organization that provides The ABC RECOVERY KIT!, an initiative that will distribute one breast prosthesis kit each to 500 financially disadvantaged breast cancer graduates across the Greater Toronto Area. Design Jam participants will promote the ABC RECOVERY KIT through a wide array of advertising media, including social media, press releases and radio, write grant proposals to secure additional funding, and develop a business strategy and management plan for long term sustainability. The graduates taking on this project are: Alicia Cerda (Marketing Management), Felipe Moreira Sardinha Ribeiro (Marketing Management), and Patricia Araujo (Global Business Management).
Centennial College- 2035 Guest Speaker
Being co-produced with the Centre for Immigrant and Community Services, 2035 Guest Speaker is a short film that will be shown in schools to create a dialogue about the refugee experience in Canada. Design Jam participants will participate in the entire production process, from pre-production through to post-production, and in promotion of the short film. The graduates taking on this project are: Atonilza Silva (Business Foundation), Gaby Salon (Broadcasting: Radio, Television, Film and Digital Media), and Simone Lewis (Lifestyle Media).
Returning for a second project, eCAMION is known for being the market leader in providing energy storage solutions. eCAMION is working on a new product and has chosen Design Jam to help them resolve the issue of weak infrastructure to charge Electronic Vehicles (EV’s) across North America through three projects: design and creation of an EV charging station, development of operator/consumer experience software for charging stations, and development of a sales and marketing strategy for the EV charging stations. The graduates taking on these projects are: Casylene Chan (Mechanical engineering technician-design), Milad Hoorzad (Project Management), Rodrigo Goncalves (Biomedical Engeneering Fast Track Coop), Mohammed Jakamy (Marketing Corporate Account Management), Andre Lemos (Software engineer technology), Huy Hoang Vuong (Software Engineering Technician), and Margi Patel (Software Engineering).
My Oral Village
My Oral Village is a non-profit organization that provides products and services to help families improve financial literacy globally. They are looking for Design Jam participants to develop and field test financial numeracy games for Android, which will require the users to create an account and profile pages where they can view their personal results, accomplishments and trends. The graduates taking on this project are: Ashley Tjon Hing (Interactive Gaming Development and Programming, and Victoria Jin (Interactive Media Management).
Real Food for Real Kids
Real Food for Real Kids is a well-known catering company that provides healthy catering services to childcare centers across the Greater Toronto Area. They have two projects for our Design Jam participants: creation of an employee communication plan, and exploring the viability of retherming food at the point of delivery. The graduates taking on these projects are: Marianna Chornenka (International Business Management), Nishanthi Anantharajah (Human Resource-Business Administration), Sabita Sunuwar (Human Resource Management), Anderson Ferreira (Biotechnology), Melissa Campos (Project Management), Hajira Tabassum (Business administration-Accounting), Marwa Abdelghani (Biotechnology), and Thanuson Ariyarajah (Biotechnology).
Unplug provides smart socket device, interfacing with the appliances to automatically optimize power consumption. Their mission is to eliminate standby power consumption in households, saving money on electricity bills and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. They want our Design Jam participants to work on two projects which involves working on a circuit design and developing marketing materials. The graduates taking on these projects are: Cem Sun (Software Engineering Technician), Leonardo Almeida (Software Engineering Technician), Manuel Ascencio (Project Management), Naveen Chakkery Joseph (Project Management), and Zameer Subratee (Mechanical Engineering Technologist Design).
Magellan Aerospace is an aerospace company that provides complex assemblies and systems solutions to aircraft and engine manufacturers and defense and space agencies worldwide. Magellan has challenged Design Jam Graduates with an operations project which will involves improving flow through and efficiency in the treatments area. This would involve a visual priority system among other requirements. Up for the challenge is the following graduate team: Heli Thakkar (Software Engineering), Alnessa Noelle (Software Engineering Technician), Gaurav Kajla (Electronics Engineering Technology), Hariharan Sukumar (Project Management), and Richard Santiago Arrais (Energy Systems Engineering Technician).
EnviroFit Inc. is a company that provides service and products such as creating artificial lawns, upgrading air ducts, LED Lighting, drain water heat recovery and more as a part of the clean energy industry. They asked a team of Design Jam participants to create a user-friendly website for clients that informs customers and at the same time allows internal management functions. Graduates to take in this project are: Jonathan Lee (Software Engineering Technology), Zosima Algire (Business Administration- Accounting), Jaspreet Kaur (Computer Systems Technology Networking), Saransh Malaiya (Marketing Research and Analytics), and Parthkumar Padhiyar (Software Engineering Technology).
Focus Inspired provides career coaching and resources to help individuals to achieve a fulfilling career. In this creative project, the Design Jam team working on Focus inspired will be creating a series of Youtube videos including copy editing, marketing and videography. The graduates who will be involved in the challenge are: Deedee Duart (Global Business Management), Joremay Pabalinas (Broadcasting: Radio, Television, Film and Digital Media), Livia Mello Da Silva (Marketing - Digital Engagement Strategy), and Adriane Rojas (Project Management).
New Mom Project
The New Mom Project operates a fully volunteer run clothing and diaper bank serving hundreds of marginalized families across Toronto. They require a client management system for their Doula Program and Pop-up shop aspects of their non-profit organization. Working on this project are graduates: Jennerys Gonzalez (Business Marketing), Nardia McDonald (Project Management), and Desiree Roberge (Office Administration and Developmental Service Worker).
Zippy Consulting is a consulting company focusing in health and wellness. They are looking for Design Jam participants to build a mobile-friendly website and build their brand awareness through conducting market research and using social media. Working on this marketing and design project are: Odelia Schmidt (Interactive Media Management), Jyoti Rana (Marketing- Corporate Account Management), Pardeep Kaur (Corporate Communications and Public Relations), and Ruimin Gu (Marketing Research and Analytics/Project Management).
Junior Achievement (JA) of Central Ontario
As a part of JA Canada and JA Worldwide, JA Central is a charitable organization educating young people about business. Working with leading business professionals, JA provides experiential learning to students from grades 4 – 12, with a focus in entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness. As a part of their 50th Anniversary Homecoming Campaign, JA challenged Design Jam graduates to develop a marketing strategy to re-engage their alumni. Working on this project are graduates: Jesiane Queiroz (Global Business Management), Alexandre Vitta (Business Marketing), Samantha White (Corporate Communications and Public Relations), and Piyush Panchal (Marketing and Research and Analytics).
eCAMION is known for being the market leader in providing energy storage solutions. They provide solutions for the energy storage industry, specializing in the integration of battery solutions. The have challenged Design Jam participant Jay Khandwala (Mechanical Engineering Technology-Design) to design an exterior for their energy storage system and work on site drawings for future deployments of eCAMION’s EV charging system.
Incite Creative Media House
Incite Creative Media House is a digital content agency that specializes in marketing media. They challenged the Design Jam team to build them a successful marketing and promotions strategy that would promote their services effectively to future clients. Working on the project are: K. Talha Ather (Business Administration: Marketing), Cindy Navarrete (Project Management, and Advertising, Creative & Digital Strategy), Joon Kil (Business Marketing), and Trang Nguyen Huyen (Business Marketing).
The Canadian Spinal Research Organization
The Canadian Spinal Research Organization is dedicated to the funding of targeted research to maximize functional recovery and cure paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Their Design Jam project is strategy development for a new initiative called Everybody Against Distracted Driving. The Design Jam team is working on website development, mission and outreach strategy as part of the project deliverables. Putting their skills together to complete this project are: Chinatsu Kawakami (Software Engineering Technician) and Nathalie Campbell (Business Marketing).
Department of Imaginary Affairs
Department of Imaginary Affairs is a not-for-profit organization that seeks, collects and shares stories of new and developing Canadians. Their goal for this project is to build an open-source library of stories that are told from the perspectives of newcomers through the development of workshop materials and creation of a workshop implementation plan including researching workshop partners, locations and additional funding. Collaborating on this project are: Christine DeGuzman (Financial Services), Ann-Marie Samuels (Paralegal), and Sanket Shah (Marketing - Research and Analytics, and Corporate Account Management).
Safran Landing Systems
Safran Landing Systems is the world leader in aircraft landing and braking systems. The company is a partner to 30 leading commercial, military, business and regional aircraft manufacturers, and supports more than 27,000 aircraft in service today. The Design Jam project is to identify a comprehensive listing of wheel and tire failure occurrences spanning from recent events to those from several decades ago. Working on this project are: Augusto Leandro (Project Management), Oluwatomisin Adenipe (Mechanical Engineering – Industrial), and Arshal Johny (Mechanical Engineering Technology – Design).
Focus Inspired provides career coaching and resources to help individuals to achieve a fulfilling career. Our Design Jam Participants are excited to be part of their initiative in developing a “mentor bot” app for their company. The graduates working on the project are: Sahilpreet Singh (Software Engineering Technician), Jose Cortez (Project Management), and Rishit Sheth (Software Engineering Technology).
Habitat for Humanity GTA
Habitat for Humanity GTA is a non-profit housing organization that builds affordable housing for low-income families by mobilizing communities and volunteers. To challenge the team of Design Jam graduates, Habitat for Humanity GTA proposed a project that required developing an outreach strategy to source new donors for Habitat GTA’s ReStore Gift In Kind Program. Taking on this project are graduates: Ilyas Yalcin (Strategic Management), Antonio Thomas (Marketing - Corporate Account Management), Ouida Sheers (International Development - Post Grad), Ana Caldas (International Business Management), and Jhonalyn Encarguez (Office Administration).
