What Employers Are Looking For
As the semester has come to an end and all of your exams and papers have been completed, you’re probably thinking about what the future has in store for you.
Where will your education take you? Hopefully to a successful and prosperous career.
The difficult part of achieving the career of your dreams is knowing where to start. You have the educational skills and on-the-job training offered by the internships and co-op programs at Centennial College, but you want to know what will make you stand out from the crowd.
Establishing a good first impression with employers will be key to your future success. But before you begin the interview process, think about what the employer is looking for among their potential employees.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when you meet with employers:
- Determination: Your commitment to your craft and willingness to learn will show the employer that you are serious about being part of the work environment.
- Self-Motivation: Being eager and not afraid to take on tasks and grow from positive criticism demonstrates professionalism, confidence and shows you can work under any circumstance.
- Person-to-person skills: Communication is key. The ability to voice your opinions is very important. Expressing your ideas in a clear manner will demonstrate to your employer that you have the expertise to do your job effectively and efficiently.
- Being a team player: Never lose sight that you will be working in an environment with other highly capable and skilled individuals. You will rely on one another to get work done.
Remember, this is your chance to shine and assure the employer that you are the right fit for their company.
