Remember to pick up your study permit from the border services officer (unless you already have a valid Canadian study permit).
If you have been granted admission into an academic program that allows you to work in Canada, it is a good idea to check your study permit when the border services officer issues it at the airport. In order to be eligible to work off campus, your study permit must have conditions or remarks that state you “may accept employment on or off campus” or “may work 20 hours per week off campus”. If you do not see these conditions or remarks, ask the officer about your eligibility to work off campus and have the permit amended, if necessary.
Don't forget to also check all your personal information printed on your study permit for accuracy (e.g. spelling of name), as well as the study permit expiry date. A study permit is usually valid for the length of your program, plus 90 days. The extra 90 days allows you to prepare to leave Canada, or to apply to extend your stay in Canada.
You must undergo another COVID-19 molecular test at the airport on the day you arrive. At that time, you will also be provided with a COVID-19 at-home specimen collection kit to use for your test on Day 10 of your mandatory quarantine (i.e. your "Day-10 test"). If you did not register in advance for your Day-1 test, you can register at the airport.
Travellers are exempt from taking the Day-1 test if they:
- have proof of a positive COVID-19 molecular test taken between 14 and 90 days prior to their flight to Canada
- are children who are 4 years of age or younger
Proceed directly from the airport to the government-authorized accommodation by taking the transportation service provided by your reserved hotel, which may be a taxi, shuttle, limousine, or ride-sharing service (check your hotel reservation package for details). The transportation service must follow public health measures.
If you are exempt from the 3-night hotel stopover, go directly to your place of quarantine and remain there for the full 14-day quarantine period.
