At present, baking positions in Canada represent about 0.5% of total Tourism Sector Employment, excluding pastry chefs. According to Ontario Job Futures, as of 2004 there are approximately 15,800 positions in Ontario with 40% of these positions being located within the GTA.
The Commercial Bakeries program is designed to meet this industry demand for people skilled in producing baked goods. Students will learn to produce commercial quantities of breads, rolls, sweet dough, savoury and sweet pastry, danish and puff pastry, cookies, cakes and desserts.
After a two-semester full-time training program graduates are qualified for entry level positions in retail bakeries, supermarkets, department stores, hotels, camps, and other related business. Graduates will have the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to carry out their duties in a safe, ethical and professional manner.

Qualified graduates who have completed an advanced program after finishing their studies in Commercial Baker may be eligible to participate in an articulated program with selected universities, institutes, and professional associations.
