The in-School training portion of the program has students in the General Motors Automotive Service Education Program (ASEP) alternate between the college and their employer for a total of 64 weeks (32 weeks with each). The training encompasses all of the latest GM vehicle systems, with emphasis on diagnosis and repair following recommended GM service procedures. A large portion of the program involves vehicle electrical and electronic systems diagnosis and repair. Upon successful completion, you will complete your on-the-job experience and apprenticeship with your General Motors employer.

During the 32 weeks of in-class training, students will be required to successfully complete the following 5 courses:

  • Motor Vehicle Gear Trains
  • Electrical/Electronics & Fuel Systems
  • Motor Vehicle Engine Systems
  • Applied Work Practices and Procedures
  • Suspension/Steering and Brakes

Build your automotive knowledge while you train on GM’s fleet. You’ll perfect your technical expertise in electronics and the diagnosing of management systems while training with one of North America’s top three automakers and a leader in green technologies.

Program Highlights

 Students enrolled in MAPs may be eligible for EI (employment insurance) during the in-class training

Put your career into drive. You’ll alternate every eight weeks, between the College and a GM employer for a total of 64 weeks (32 weeks with each). Our apprenticeship program offers more in-depth training and longer in-class sessions than traditional apprenticeships, so you’ll be miles ahead.

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or GED (General Educational Development)
Non-academic Requirements
  • Applicant must be employed as an automotive apprentice at a General Motors of Canada dealership
