Do you want to improve your English language skills for college?

Our English for Academic Purposes Program is a certificate program for students who use English as a second or additional language, and who wish to improve their English language skills to advance their education.

The program emphasizes speaking, listening, effective writing, reading comprehension, and college study skills.  Students are placed in one of our three levels - Basic, Intermediate, or Pre-College.  Students are placed according to a free language diagnostic test.  Students who successfully complete at least two levels, including Level 3 in the EAP Program, receive a college certificate.  Students in Level 3 who get B grades in their Reading and Writing classes have automatic entry into the college COMM 161 English course.

The EAP program includes:

  • Highly qualified, dedicated, and experienced teaching staff
  • Free discussion groups through the Library which are designed to help students build their conversational English skills
  • Computer labs featuring multimedia ESL software
  • Tutoring
  • Academic advising to ensure a smooth path to further education

Success in College Programs

About 70% of English for Academic Purposes Program students continue their studies at Centennial College.  EAPP students claim more confidence in their English language ability after taking EAPP classes, and they say they feel better prepared to make presentations, submit assignments, and participate in group work when they enter college classes.
