Research at Centennial College

If you are looking to explore research at the college here are some areas:

Applied Research, and Innovation Center (ARIC)

ARIC works with a broad range of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) to develop and launch market-ready solutions in a timely manner. ARIC can accomplish this by tapping into the incredible talent pool of Centennial students, faculty, and staff. Federal and Ontario government funding largely fund ARIC projects. Significant funding also comes from Centennial’s own ARIC fellowships.

Social Innovation Research Centre (SIRC)

SIRC connects community partners with schools/departments to address and solve community problems through innovative research projects, which are largely funded by NSERC College and Community Social Innovation Fund. The Centre provides support for grant development, managing research projects, and provides training for staff and faculty on effective social innovation research approaches. Story Arts Research Lab (SARL)

The vision of the Lab is to empower story arts through research and inquiry. The Lab’s mission is to create and identify opportunities for the exploration of stories through interdisciplinary scholarship, innovative projects, and applied research. At the core of the vision and the mission is an inclusive view of research and a belief that knowledge is acquired and advanced not only through conceptual, data-driven, peer-reviewed publications, but also through scholarly initiatives that are conducted as a creative and collaborative enterprise between students, staff, faculty, and community members. Past projects included inquiries focused on exploring storytelling in a variety of technological, psychological, and cultural contexts.

Centennial College Researcher’s Network

Do you have a passion for research and want to connect with like-minded people? If you are interested in starting graduate studies, are currently enrolled, or a seasoned researcher looking to discuss and collaborate with your peers, consider joining the Centennial Research Networking Group (CRNG). This group meets a few times a semester to share their research projects, studies, and interests, as well as to learn about research methods and to offer mentorship and support. CRNG is a space to explore and create collaborative research projects within Centennial and beyond. Come join!

Research Ethics Board

Centennial College is legally and morally committed to ensure that research conducted in its name meets all ethical standards and policies accepted by the three major Canadian research funding agencies (NSERC, CIHR, and SSHRC, collectively referred to as the Tri-Council). All research involving human or animal subjects conducted at, or under the auspices of, Centennial College must follow Tri-Council guidelines, which require ethics review and approval by the Centennial College Research Ethics Board (REB) prior to the initiation of the research study. This includes work by Centennial faculty, staff and students, including Fellowship and Capstone projects, as well as researchers external to the College who intend to conduct research at Centennial.

The policies and practices governing the ethical conduct of research in Canada are established by the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans. We expect researchers to be familiar with the Tri-Council guidelines on research ethics. Educational tools such as sample application form, sample consent form, an alternate consent form, and a consent checklist are available on this site.
