Research Fund

The Centre for Faculty Development & Teaching Innovation (CFDTI) is committed to fostering learning-centred communities on key academic priorities, including academic scholarship and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning by funding new, innovative projects designed to examine compelling issues related to teaching and learning excellence and student engagement.

The Centre for Faculty Development & Teaching Innovation (CFDTI) working in collaboration with Centennial’s Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Services (ARIES) promotes and funds Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research. Each academic year CFDTI funds SoTL research projects that focus on advancing best practices in teaching and learning in post-secondary education.

In 2015, the Centre for Faculty Development & Teaching Innovation (CFDTI) at Centennial College, introduced the “Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Research Fund”. Working in collaboration with Centennial’s Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Services (ARIES), faculty, support and administrative members from across academic Schools and departments can submit proposals that respond to the general theme of “Post-Secondary Teaching and Learning in the Twenty-first Century”. All approved proposals come with a research expense budget of up to $1,500.00 with the proviso that at least 25% of the budget be used to hire a Centennial College student research assistant to build capacity among the next generation of researchers and scholars. Additionally, full-time faculty receive two course releases, one for two consecutive semesters, and contract faculty receive the equivalent of 3 teaching hours/week at the non-teaching rate over two semesters. Upon completion of their research, SoTL recipients must present their research findings and implications for practice through internal and external conferences, publications, webinars and other knowledge-sharing channels to advance evidence-informed teaching and learning at the College and beyond.

Apply for the soTL Research Fund

As the research will require time to complete and may affect workload, we encourage all applicants to share their interest in becoming a SoTL recipient with their manager/chair and gain approval prior to applying for funding. Managers/Chairs of all SoTL applicants are encouraged to support faculty endeavors and recognize the valuable contribution that this research has on our students’ success.
