The Centre for Faculty Development and Teaching Innovation (CFDTI) supports student learning by working with faculty and academic managers to promote the thoughtful and effective use of educational technologies. We are committed to providing technological resources in pursuit of academic success for our students. We achieve this goal by working in partnership with various areas of the College to:
- Implement technologies and services that create richer teaching and learning experiences.
- Provide professional development opportunities for effectively integrating innovative educational technologies into teaching practices.
- Work collaboratively in identifying the needs of Schools and their faculty and students as it relates to the College's Academic Plan.
We support the following Academic Technology Tools:
eCentennial is Centennial College's Learning Management System (LMS) by D2L Brightspace. It offers various communication and collaboration tools that allow you to enhance learning experiences and increase your teacher presence.
SOME OF THE KEY FEATURES THAT ECENTENNIAL OFFERS ARE:
- Access and/or download course outlines, schedules, handouts, and other materials uploaded by professors.
- Post course announcements and news, such as course cancellations, time and location changes, and other reminders that will appear when you sign in.
- Provide up-to-date information about your course grades. You can closely monitor progress through your courses at any time in a confidential and secure environment.
- Enhance ways for students to communicate with each other and the course professor. Many sophisticated tools within eCentennial allow you to design effective ways of helping students interact online. Online chat, threaded discussion, and video presentations are all possible.
- Present course content to students in an organized and consistent fashion. Assignment descriptions, website references, and other learning content can be made easily accessible to all students.
- Provide a platform for students to submit assignments in a secure way that tracks the time and date of each submission. You may also provide feedback in multiple formats on assignments.
One of the main goals of the Centre for Faculty Development & Teaching Innovation (CFDTI) is to integrate technologies and provide services that help to create richer teaching and learning experiences. We are continuously researching and staying current with changes in the field of education and emerging educational tools and technologies. The CFDTI team works collaboratively with our I.T. department to diligently assess the suitability of the tools and to support the educational needs of our community. - H5P: Allows instructors to create learning materials as interactive HTML5 activities.
- Mediasite: Enables instructors to create, manage and publish digital recordings of lectures, class sessions, or presentations for in-class, online, and hybrid courses
- Padlet: A virtual bulletin board/multimedia wall that allows real-time interaction among students and faculty.
- Publisher Integrations (Pearson, McGraw Hill): Allows both instructors and students to access the publisher textbook and resources through eCentennial.
- Zoom: A communications platform that allows users to connect with video, audio, phone, and chat.
