Harry Taylor Solar Energy Wall Sign

the harry taylor solar energy wall signage outside sunnybrookThe current signage for the Harry Taylor Solar Energy Wall put up in 2009, showing digital displays of real-time data on the current power produced (bottom left) and electricity generated that day (bottom right).

The Harry Taylor Solar Energy Wall at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre was installed in 2009 to commemorate the legacy that Harry Talor, their then Director of Facilities Services, left behind after he passed away in an accident a few months prior. Harry was known to be an innovator and trailblazer for environmental stewardship, his green efforts having earned Sunnybrook various environmental recognitions. The Wall features two solar arrays comprised of 140 solar photovoltaic panels spanning two storeys of a parking garage and roof of the J wing building, generating around 27,000 kilowatts of electricity for the hospital annually.

Part of the installation was a display signage that described the project and shows real-time data on the energy being generated by the solar arrays. Now over a decade later, the signage is calling for a refreshed, renewed look. Funded by the Applied Research and Innovation Fellowship (ARIF), Paige Currie and Sam Sporich, students from the Centennial College Graphic Design program are designing a brand-new display to showcase the Harry Taylor Solar Energy Wall. This engaging signage will help raise awareness on the solar arrays and sustainability initiatives at Sunnybrook.
