Solar Energy Research Facility
In March 2011, the CEI received a grant of $150,000 toward a Solar Energy Research Facility from NSERC-ARTI. The grant is for equipment only and Centennial is providing a matching grant of $150,000 for infrastructure and manpower support to realize the facility.
Through this state-of-the-art facility, to be constructed at the College's Progress Campus, the CEI intends to be a central resource for commercial solar research and development. The facility will be used for training, applied research, and testing on solar thermal and solar electric applications, as well as various technologies used to measure, record, analyze and disseminate solar energy and associated environmental characteristics for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
The facility is currently under construction and the CEI is in the process of reviewing and purchasing the relevant equipment for use in the facility. We expect that the facility will be fully operational by summer 2012.
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) will find the resources invaluable to them for benchmarking and comparative analyses of existing commercial STE and PV systems. Data will be shared appropriately across the Toronto Solar Radiation Network (TSRN) of higher education researchers.
