Network Operating Systems Laboratory, Room 414 

Purpose:  
Students have access to professional server hardware, on which they will learn:

  • Installation and configuration of various servers and client operating systems
  • Window, Linux, Unix and Novell operating systems
  • Configuration of servers and clients for secure environments

PC and Network Hardware Laboratory, Room 412

Purpose:    

This lab provides students with an environment in which they can take apart the PC hardware and put it together again in a functional mode.

PCs are built from scratch using sub-systems from IBM, Compaq and Vectra computers.

Students complete hands-on exercises on the fundamentals of networking and lab work for CCNA1 certification.

Enterprise Networking Laboratory, Room 416

Purpose:  

Students do hands-on configuration and installation of internetworking devices that are used to build enterprise-level networks. They also configure routers and switches to form subnets and VLANs.

CCNA2-level courses take place in this lab.

Purpose:

In this newly equipped laboratory, students will learn and apply the fundamentals of Private Branch Exchange (PBX) operation, configuration and administration using state-of-the-art Voice over IP (VoIP) switches and telephone sets.

Students examine factors influencing Internet Protocol Telephony operation and practise troubleshooting techniques.
 

Participants learn and practise the basics of telephony wiring and learn to administer common small business solutions, such as Key Systems.

Telecommunications Laboratory Room 420 

Network Engineering Laboratory Room 426

Purpose:   

Students gain hands-on experience working on wireless personal area network (PAN) and wireless local area network (WLAN), as well as developing wireless Internet applications.

PAN is implemented using IrDA and Bluetooth technologies. WLAN (adhoc and infrastructure) is implemented using 802.11 a/b/g technologies from vendors like Avaya and Cisco.

This laboratory houses the facility for CSNT and the applied degree modules, covering areas such as the following:

  • Design and testing of enterprise-level network, consisting of multi-vendor switching and routing internetworking devices
  • Internetworking: system integration
  • Network management where students have hands-on experience using SolarWinds, HP OpenView packages and Fluke OptiView Workgroup Analyzer

Basic Electronics Laboratory, Room 404

Purpose:  

In our newly equipped and furnished labs, teams of two students will learn how to build, to test and to troubleshoot digital logic circuits as well as a variety of the general purpose electrical and electronic circuits.

The laboratory is equipped with modern test equipment, including both analog and digital oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators and power supplies. The hands-on, project-based learning approach is used as a laboratory teaching method. The students will also familiarize themselves with the latest developments in computer-based design, analysis and in-circuit testing procedures.

Purpose:  

Electronic Communications is dedicated to the study and familiarization of how the information signals are transmitted and received via AM, SSB and FM communication systems. The students, while working in teams, will experiment with modems, line drivers (e.g. RS-232), local area networks (LANs), along with other networks, and data communication equipment and systems.

The laboratory is equipped with modern test equipment, including both analog and digital oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators and power supplies. The hands-on, project-based learning approach is used as a laboratory teaching method.

Electronic Communications Laboratory, Room 408 

Purpose:    

In the RF and Wireless Technology Laboratory, students will evaluate and apply the characteristics of antennas and waveguides to the practical tasks. Numerous parameters and technical specifications used in the RF field are calculated and measured.

Student will gain a working knowledge in integrating, testing, and repair of wireless system.
