Purpose:
Tool and Die, CAD/CAM and Mechanical Technology programs
Type of equipment and facility:
This lab consists of four thousand square feet with an assortment of machine tools: lathes, mills, surface grinder drills, and welding booth. We have various makes of machines, some new and some old. A machinist would best benefit from knowing as many machines as possible.
Courses served:
MT-131, MT-132, MT-140 and MT-142
Applied Chemistry Laboratory, Room 436
For Tool and Die Maker, second year
Type of equipment and facility:
Four thousand square feet filled with various machine tools that include lathes, mills, surface grinder drills and welding booth, plus a jig borer, jig grinder, cylindrical grinder, punch press, horizontal mill and a tool crib with all the tools and accessories needed to train potential tool and die makers
Courses served:
MT-244 and MT-245
Machine Shop, Room B1-02A and B
For Tool and Die Maker, second year
Type of equipment and facility:
For Mechanical Technology students and Automation and Robotic students, this lab is used to teach students in both these programs basic machine-shop skills in their first semester so that later on they can design and build projects in the same lab. These projects can consist of anything from a hovercraft to plastic injection machines or even exercise equipment.
Courses served:
MT-103, MT-120, MT-234 and MT-358
Applied Chemistry Laboratory, Room 436
Using the ABB robot's Rapid software, students learn to program the robot sequences on the offline PCs. Once the program is verified by the lab instructors, students then download their programs to the robot controller. By teaching the robot points with the Teach Pendants, students can execute the ABB robot program sequences.
Type of equipment and facility:
ABB robot (Model: IRB-1400 six-axes robot)
Courses served:
ROBO-237 and ROBO-247
MVC: D1-09-3 - Robot/PLC lab, Room D1-09
Using the AB PLC and Omron PLC systems, a pick-and-place (X, Y, Z axes) pneumatic sequence can be programmed and executed. The students learn to design and program the network system between the PC, PLC, operator screen and the robot.
Type of equipment and facility:
Automation Cell with Allen Bradley PLC (SLC 503), Allen Bradley operator screen (PANELVIEW 550), Omron C200H PLC and pneumatic systems
Courses served:
ROBO-242, ROBO-247, ROBO-243, ROBO-352, ROBO-362, ROBO-363 and ROBO-364
Applied Chemistry Laboratory, Room 436
From the electrical and electronic classes of semesters 1 and 2, students are ready to hook and wire the electrical relay circuits to control the pneumatic sequences. Once the students understand the electrical relay circuit, the Siemens PLC logic programs replacing the electrical relay control circuits are introduced.
Type of equipment and facility:
Electrical, pneumatic and PLC panels
Courses served:
ROBO-232, ROBO-242 and ROBO-352
