On September 30, 2026, all employees are invited to join the Centre for Faculty Development and Teaching Innovation (CFDTI) for our annual Orange Shirt Day Symposium, a day of learning, reflection, and community in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The morning program will begin with a Traditional opening from Dr. Liz Akiwenzie, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Neil Buddel and a keynote from June Taylor.
June is a proud Mi'kmaq and Anishinaabe woman from Sipekne'katik First Nation in Nova Scotia and Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory in Ontario. The daughter of a Residential School survivor and a Day School survivor herself, June brings lived experience, cultural knowledge, storytelling, and many years of work serving Indigenous communities to her presentation. Her keynote will reflect on the intergenerational impacts of Residential and Day Schools, the importance of cultural connection, and the role that culture, ceremony, family, and community have played in her own journey.
