The first person I came out to was my Mom when I was 17. I was terrified that she would find out I was gay, so I decided to be the one to tell her. Her response to me was “It’s all good, instead of apples you like oranges!” After hearing that, I felt like the huge weight on my shoulders was gone! There’s nothing more liberating than the feeling of letting it out. I still remember that day as one of my greatest acts of bravery!
