Queering Community Student Collective Liaison and Social Service Worker Student

Being the 2023-2024 Queering Community Student Collective Liaison I have so much gratitude for being a part of this campaign.  I would not be here speaking about coming out if it wasn’t thanks to CCSAI, Transitions and Student Life and Manny for creating the magic for this campaign.

Coming out is not just a one and done thing. You are coming out constantly, almost every day of your life. There’s no agenda to come out, and it isn’t just a date on the calendar marked “Coming Out”. I first came out to friends when I was 15, followed by coming out to my mom years later, only a few months being at college.

In high school, I got asked “are you lesbian or straight?” and I’d say neither. I am bisexual. And my sexuality is not defined by whether I’m in a relationship with a man, a woman or someone who is non gender conforming. I’m still me and I’m bisexual.

Something I want to write to my younger self, and to anyone else who is scared to come out is this: I know it's scary but things do get better and that it isn’t so scary once you accept yourself and then tell other people to accept you.
