Being gay is the best thing that’s ever happened to me! Honestly, I don’t think my younger self would’ve ever imagined I’d say that, but it’s true. Being gay has given me the chance to think differently, to question everything.

I came out when I was 22, in a super loving family environment. But just when I thought everything was figured out, I realized the real challenge isn’t just coming out—it’s opening the door and inviting in the people you love to truly know you. That’s been my biggest challenge these past 10 years.

Now, looking back, I can say being gay has been one of the greatest gifts because it’s pushed me to question everything and given me the option to live life differently from most. I’m deeply grateful for the people and spaces where I’ve felt seen and supported. Having places where we can reflect ourselves, where we feel recognized, is so important—it reminds us that we’re not wrong and, most importantly, we’re not alone.

Thanks to Centennial College for giving me a space to connect with inspiring stories and feel right at home.
