Centennial College Indigenous Cluster Hire

Centennial College will be hiring eight new Indigenous faculty members over the 2022-2023 academic year as part of an Indigenous Faculty Cluster Hire.

The hires will address our commitment in Centennial’s Indigenous Strategic Framework to create equitable access opportunities and “increase the number of Indigenous employees with hires throughout the institution, including Indigenous faculty, learner facing positions and management and ensure the appropriate on-boarding and culturally relevant transition supports are in place to ease adjustment and transition” (Centennial College Indigenous Strategic Framework).

In our Academic Plan 2022-2025, we also state, “Indigenous learners will see themselves and their communities reflected in our academic programs and faculty, making Centennial the urban college of choice for urban and rural Indigenous students, faculty and staff, as well as learners from across diverse Indigenous communities and Nations.”

The recruitment and selection processes are taking place over the Winter and Spring semesters, with the new hires intended to begin full-time faculty positions in August 2023.

While there will be further Indigenous faculty hires in the future, these new faculty positions will help to address the under-representation of Indigenous peoples among full-time faculty. Each role will also contribute to and deepen our commitments to Indigenous learning and curriculum development by hiring specialists in such areas as Indigenous food systems, Indigenous architecture, and Indigenous pedagogies and curriculum development.
