Mike Countryman is a professor and Program Coordinator for Communications and Media Fundamentals at Centennial College. In a past life, he was an active member of Toronto's indie-music scene as lead singer of the bands Put The Rifle Down and Dark Ages. He's worked as a sound designer, audio engineer, producer, and remixer. He's currently a novelist of historical fiction and dark, hard-hitting sci-fi cyberpunk stuff. His most recent novel is Info Freako, an epic adventure about artificial sentience, surveillance culture, and state authoritarianism.
He has worked as a media and writing professor for over ten years. He has focused on helping marginalized, at-risk youth achieve their full potential as they transition into the postsecondary environment. He actively encourages his students to be both creative and professional writers as they move into successful careers in the media industries. Before taking on the coordinator role for the Communications and Media Fundamentals program, he worked in several other transitional fundamentals programs such as School-Within-A-College and Dual Credit. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and History from the University of Toronto and a Master of Education from Brock University.
