Tara Jan has been working in the television business for over 30 years. She is an award winning Producer who manages productions from start to finish, has sent crews all over the world and produced hundreds of hours of television. As a Supervising Producer, she hires the creative team, manages the budget and schedule and ensures the production is delivered on time and on budget. She works on live teleconferences, one-off documentaries, live shows, series television, feature docs, reality series, dramatic recreations and integrated digital solutions for broadcast clients. From Mike Holmes renovation shows for HGTV to an Emmy award-winning documentary on the sex slavery trade in Moldova on “Front Line”, to a museum app for the ROM and a film series for the Vatican, she has managed a variety of mediums, teams, projects and collaborators. At Muse Entertainment in Toronto, as Executive in Charge of Non-Scripted Production, she oversaw all television series production, web content, development and distribution, start to finish, for several years. While there, as well as producing several series on the factual side, she worked on the 8-part dramatic series on CBC entitled “Coroner” and the Netflix original film, “Good Sam”.
Tara was the Executive in Charge of Production for Associated Producers in Toronto, overseeing a 6-part documentary series on the transatlantic slave trade in 2020. For this series, she managed the filming of slave shipwreck dives for the series on 5 continents and sent crews to over 12 countries, all within one year. It won several awards, including Best Documentary Series at the CMA’s that year. In the spring of 2022, she produced a four-part doc series for Amazon, which premiered at Hot Docs and was the first true crime series for Amazon in Canada.
She has been teaching at Centennial for ten years, in the 3-year Broadcasting and post-graduate Film and Television Business program. She is a guest speaker at many industry conferences, and prioritizes mentoring young professionals into the field.
