Piper Hayes is a multidisciplinary artist, international touring musician, storyteller and educator. She writes music that uplifts, inspires introspection and encourages healing. She is a Hamilton Arts Award Creator nominee, two time nominee of the OAC's Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award and professor at Centennial College. She has toured her original music extensively across Turtle Island and overseas to Europe, the UK, Nepal and India. In addition to her own art practice, she is a voice educator, yoga instructor and somatic movement facilitator, as well as former mentor artist for InPAth N’we Jinan ArtWorks Program and choir co-director. She has been teaching movement, body mechanics and performance art (acting, singing and dancing) for over 22 years. She got her teaching start as a swim instructor and coach and has been a professor part of Centennial College’s MIAP since 2019. Her knowledge of the voice comes directly from her own experience and study, going as far back as elementary school. She is classically trained as a vocalist and studied extensive voice and speech as well as been exposed to laryngeal posturing via her instructor Tessa Lang. Her approach to voice draws wisdom from her background studying musical theatre at CAP 21 in NYC as well as her many athletic endeavours; UBC varsity cross-country and long distance track athlete, years of personal training, studying many forms of dance; jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, modern and second degree Reiki student. She upholds and practices the belief that everyone can sing and values inclusivity and accountability. She designs music programming for organizations geared toward adults with disabilities, teams up with the Canadian Mental Health Organization to deliver music and mental-wellness workshops, nurtures singalongs at long term care facilities, facilitates songwriting workshops, is a songwriter participant in Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall's Lullabies program and is a mum of two little humans.
