Project Information
The objective of this project is to build an automated bartending equipment in which a 2-Degree of Freedom robotic arm will be used to mix different types of drinks into a glass. A microcontroller will be also used to control all the devices in the equipment, including servo motors, sensors, and pumps. A Mobile app is developed for the user to select his/her desired drink. There are four glasses in total, the user will select the glass position and type of drink in the app and the robot will move on top of the glass to pour the drink into the glass. A12V power brick is used for the reliability for the user. It is just plug and play device. Safety will also be a major issue to be tackled with in this project as liquids and electronics will be here. Lastly, this project aims to build an equipment in which helps workers in an ideal bartending setting.

AutoBOT is a unique blend of electrical and mechanical technology. It is a low-cost, programmable robotic arm with 7 degrees of freedom. It can be used for applications such as pick and place, packaging, inspection and assembling. The user can teach operation points using intuitive user interface and the robot will work without any manual intervention. The 7th degree of freedom is a linear motion system which makes the robot working envelope significantly bigger. The modular design makes it easy to transport and install. There are 2 main sections, the robot arm and the robot controller. The connections between arm and controller are done by using waterproof aviation connectors. The intuitive user interface on the controller enables fast and easy programming of points. The robot can be jogged to any point and the position is saved as a “point” in the controller. The on-board joystick modules enables easy control of each joints of the robotic arm separately. When the system is in “AUTO” mode, the robot will move from one point to another precisely and will repeat the cycle. It is light-weight, and user-friendly compared to the giant industrial robots. There are several safety features incorporated to ensure operator safety and machine safety. AutoBOT is designed in such a way that small businesses can benefit from it.
Project Information
Wireless hand motion controlled robotic arm has been developed based on Arduino. This robotic arm has the capability to perform rotation and translation motion as well as pick-and-place operations. This is achieved by using 5 servo motors for the rotation and translation motion. The pick-and-place operation is accomplished using another servo motor along with a gripper, which operates as an end effector; and the end effector can be replaced to accommodate any other application. Gikfun GY-521 MPU-6050 3-axis Accelerometer is integrated into a glove to sense the hand motion , which used to measure the change in acceleration in the workspace, and then the detected signals are consumed by Arduino UNO R3 on the transmitter circuit. On the other hand, the receiver circuit communicates with the transmitter circuit through Aukru 433 MHz RF module which transfers the information received from the transmitter Arduino UNO R3 and sends it to the receiver RF module on the robotic arm. Then, the Arduino on the receiver circuit command the 6different servo motors using PWM signals, which are responsible for the motion of robotic arm and the gripper. This robotic arm is powered by a 12 V battery which is protected by a switch.

In recent days, the world is battling on a global pandemic that causes various impacts to almost every aspect of essential living. According to World Health Organization, the coronavirus disease is considered as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern due to its binary and restrictive nature. This pandemic is continuously affecting our great population and destroying everyone’s well-being. As Electromechanical Engineering students, our goal is to provide a technological and efficient way of fighting this contagious virus. This research and design project have accomplished the following objectives:
- Developed an innovative and advanced turnstile barrier gate with COVID19 control measures for public and private facilities
- Constructed a fully functional project in 16 hours and with total expenses of $75
- Created an independent system that operates with Arduino Microcontroller and Arduino Integrated Development Environment
- Provided a user-friendly and contactless temperature screening procedure with the use of Analog Sensors such as Infrared Temperature and Distance Sensor
- Monitored the amount of occupancy level of premises though ultrasonic counters
- Displayed the real-time temperature, number of people inside the premises and instructions through Liquid Crystal Display;
This project will mainly benefit the public, government and economy. In addition, the device will greatly help the front liners/ temperature checkers for making them contactless and by reducing the transmission of the contagious virus. On a final note, our current problems require modern solutions, this Automated Turnstile Barrier with COVID19 Control Measures will greatly contribute to the body of knowledge and wide-fight against coronavirus.
