Overview
The School of English and Liberal Studies (formerly School of Advancement) offers an array of full and part-time certificates and diploma programs which provide career potentials by helping students gain a solid educational foundation which offers pathway opportunities to diploma and degree programs. Through guided curricula, small classes, online, and in-class delivery, students earn credits in English, General Education, and Liberal Studies, as well as college and university transfer credits. The School of English and Liberal Studies is a progressive leader in Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives. The School has taken great strides to offer the College mandated General Education course in Global Citizenship and Equity (GNED 500) and certificate programs which give students a more competitive edge in the globalized workplace and society.
In addition to the wide array of programs that are offered at Centennial College, the School of English and Liberal Studies offers services to further enhance and promote learning development:
- English Tutoring Centre where there is one-on-one free tutoring for students.
- The Assessment Centre provides College admission and placement testing for English and Math.
- The International English Language Training Services (IELTS) provides English testing for immigration purposes.
- Community-based Employment Ontario Ministry funded Programs is aimed at increasing post-secondary participation and access to skills training, certifications, and apprenticeships.
- Corrections Literacy Initiatives (CLI) is a partnership with Toronto East Detention Centre that offers a unique program that supports justice-involved populations which that strengthen essential skills required for post-secondary participation.
As a student, School of English and Liberal Studies provides supports that will enhance education, develop, and strive to improve literacy. By promoting learning development, a learning experience will be offered to provide personal growth and academic progression that will enrich life skills and fulfill career goals that will lend to the amelioration of self and the global community.
