Courses in the Career and College Transition program help students to strengthen essential skills in mathematics and English communications. In this stream of programming students are prepared for writing a skills assessment which is required for entry into many post-secondary college programs. A variety of engaging courses are offered to support a student’s foundation to be successful in higher education, the labour market, and in daily life.
We offer a mix of online and hybrid courses.

Course Offerings
The College Preparation Communications course is designed to enhance a full range of writing, grammar, and reading skills of students seeking pathways to employment and postsecondary. It includes materials and activities relevant to learners who are interested in upgrading their communication skills and pursuing further education. In this course, students exercise a variety of different strategies to develop reading skills around understanding vocabulary in context, identifying main ideas and accompanying supporting details, etc. In addition, students will engage in grammar lessons related to parts of speech, punctuation marks, subject-verb agreement, fragments, and run-on sentences. These lessons will equip students with the ability to identify and fix common errors in writing. Finally, students are introduced to the writing process, paragraph structure, and different types of paragraphs. This course prepares students to continue to enhance their skills in the Level 5 Communications course.
The College Preparation Communications course is designed to enhance the full range of writing and reading skills of students seeking pathways to employment and postsecondary. It introduces students to foundational concepts in reading, such as main ideas, supporting details, relationships, purpose, and tone. This course also introduces students to the writing process, including pre-writing, outlining, drafting, and editing. It includes materials and activities relevant to learners who are interested in upgrading their communication skills and pursuing further education. This course will prepare learners to read actively and critically. It will also support students to write clear, organized, and effective paragraphs and essays in preparation for future employment and postsecondary program entry.
This course is designed for students who have struggled with math in early years. Students will benefit from this math refresher which covers a variety of foundational concepts including whole numbers with an emphasis on long division, fractions and decimals. The course will help to lay an important foundation for further study in mathematics.
This mathematics course covers algebra including arithmetic operators, signed numbers, linear equations, percentages, ratios and proportions, and geometry. The course integrates technology and recognizes the importance of mastering essential numeric and algebraic skills. Students will perform operations on various types of numbers in algebraic expressions, and in solving equations. Students will apply imperial and metric systems of measurement to geometric shapes and will convert units using dimensional analysis.
This course is designed to assist the student in navigating the world of work. The student will initially work through a self-assessment process using a variety of psychometric tests. While not providing definitive answers, this process will assist the student in making some key decisions regarding the direction of their education path and career. The student will gain a better understanding of him/herself with respect to the labour market and will learn about labour market information, occupations in demand, skilled trades, and education options. Job search skills, including the development of a cover letter, resume, online presence and networking will be developed. In addition, learning will include what employers expect in terms of employee behavior and Essential Employability Skills.
This timely, engaging and interactive course provides students with a solid foundation towards their post-secondary, apprenticeship, or career goal path. Building resiliency can impact one’s wellbeing and success in all areas of life, including career, education, and physical and emotional health. In this course, students will be introduced to the different areas of social and emotional skills, including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship building. This course will develop the ability to manage emotions, build healthy relationships with the self and others, develop healthy habits, and identify roles and responsibilities as a global citizen in personal and professional lives. Several tools and techniques will be utilized, such as practicing trauma-informed mindfulness, self-compassion, and communication skills. Students will identify their own personality traits, strengths, and growth opportunities in order to understand themselves and others, foster personal resiliency, and support others within their communities.
This online micro-credential was designed to re-introduce students to learning, and provide information about the important tools and study habits necessary to be successful in academic upgrading programs. This course is an invaluable resource to help students be successful in education at any level as they learn key elements of college-level courses, time management, norms for communication, and how organization plays a critical role in preparing for the demands of post-secondary college programs.
This 42-hour micro credential is designed to develop students’ knowledge and digital skills for 21st century. Students will learn online etiquette, privacy and ethical use of technology, creating and managing digital identities, file use and data storage, how to use attachments, the cloud, and time management tools for higher education, employment, and daily life in the digital age.
