Mandy is an Ontario Certified Teacher, who specializes in mathematics. She is committed to engaging students and fostering their success by exploring new methods to teach mathematics. Since arriving at Centennial College in 2012, Mandy has taught a wide range of mathematics and statistics courses. She has also been involved in the scholarship of teaching and learning by conducting research on the topic of supporting female students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). In 2017, she was nominated for Centennial College's George Wicken Teaching Excellence Award.
Beyond the classroom, Mandy is also committed to fostering learning in the community. She is a member of the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education and has been involved in designing and organizing Math Olympics for elementary school students in Kingston. She was also a mentor and worked with high school students through Pathways to Education.
Mandy studied her Bachelor of Science, majoring in Mathematics, and her Bachelor of Education at the University of Toronto. After graduation, she had more questions than answers on non-traditional mathematics teaching strategies, which led her to Queen's University to pursue her Master of Education.
Mandy is motivated when she sees students realize where math is applied in real life. She enjoys cooking reading, doing yoga, and going for long walks with my family and my corgi. Recently, she started creating math picture books for young readers.
