Dear Centennial College Students,
I am very pleased to inform you that faculty will NOT be striking as of Friday March 18, 2022.
Both the CEC and OPSEU bargaining teams met with a Ministry of Labour mediator on Thursday, March 17 and have agreed to enter into binding interest arbitration regarding both parties’ outstanding issues.
Not only does this mean that the scheduled March 18 strike has been called off, but it also means that work-to-rule has ended; professors, instructors, librarians, and counsellors remain on the job and all classes and services will continue as normal.
I am thankful to both parties for their work and care in this regard. As noted by the CEO of the CEC: “after all that students, faculty and the College community have been through over the past two years, we felt it was essential that we put our differences aside and conclude these negotiations without a strike.”
I am also thankful to you, our students, who have both respectfully voiced your needs and remained patient during what has likely been a stressful time for you – particularly in combination with the pandemic.
Thank you again for your patience and I hope you enjoy the rest of your semester here at Centennial College.
With respect,
Dr. Neil Buddel
Vice-President, Student Experience and Success
