National AccessAbility Week (NAAW)

NAAW is a week-long Canadian initiative dedicated to celebrating and promoting accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities. Held from May 25-31, 2025, NAAW provides an opportunity for organizations, governments, and communities to strengthen their commitment to accessibility and highlight progress toward creating a barrier-free society. Persons with disabilities encounter numerous barriers within society; employment is one such area. According to the "Employment Strategy for Canadians with Disabilities" released by the Canadian Government in July 2024, Statistics Canada estimated that in 2022, over one million Canadians with disabilities aged 15 to 64 could work but did not have a job due to the lack of inclusive workplaces. NAAW seeks to reverse this trend by raising awareness.

Centennial’s Recognition of NAAW

Hosted by the Innovation, Inclusion, Reconciliation and Healing (IIRH) portfolio, the online workshop, "AccessAbility and You!" aims to raise awareness at the College and strengthen our commitment to improving accessibility and inclusion by providing employees and students with the knowledge and skills needed to:

  • Define accessibility and identify ableism in the context of higher education
  • Explore strategies to deconstruct and dismantle ableism in higher educational institutions
  • As a member of the College community, identify a minimum of one action or commitment that each person can take to dismantle ableism at Centennial College

Everyone will have the opportunity to hear from Changemakers across the College who are integrating accessibility practices into their work, and you will also have the opportunity to create your own personal commitment to improve accessibility at Centennial and beyond.

We are excited to invite Centennial staff and students to attend on Thursday May 29, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
