Every year, Centennial College’s Innovation, Inclusion, Reconciliation and Healing (IIRH) portfolio hosts Two Spirit and Transgender Day of Remembrance and Resilience. We invite you to join us on November 19th for a panel presentation featuring Two Spirit and transgender individuals who hold expertise on the multiple ways that public policy decisions affect the daily lives of Two Spirit and transgender communities. Specifically panelists will discuss how policies on gender-based violence, immigration and healthcare affect the wellbeing, academic studies and career prospects of Two Spirit and transgender individuals. Through their attendance, participants will develop an understanding of diverse Two Spirit and transgender perspectives while recognizing common threads of both transphobic discrimination and community resilience.
November 20 marks Transgender Day of Remembrance, founded in 1999 to memorialize the murder of transgender woman Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts, and now recognized broadly as an opportunity to honour trans, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse people who have been murdered as a result of transphobia.
The event is open to all staff and students at Centennial College. Live-streaming and live closed captioning will be available. Light refreshments will be served.
