Schulich Builders: Scholarships for Skilled Trades

Schulich Builders: Scholarships for Skilled Trades are awarded to students enrolling in full-time certificate and diploma programs within eligible skilled trade fields at participating Ontario colleges. Colleges offer the scholarships in programs with the most in-demand jobs in the skilled trade sector in Ontario. The program will award 120 scholarships annually with 10 scholarships available at each participating college. Scholarships are valued at up to $40,000 ($20,000 per academic year), supporting the costs of tuition, living expenses and tools. Schulich Builders will benefit from internal resources at the college to enhance their student experience and building up employment skills and connections to industry. Schulich Builders: Scholarships for Skilled Trades aims to recognize and enable Ontario’s future skilled trade workers, with an annual investment of over $3 million through top Ontario colleges.

Eligibility Criteria

Schulich Builders: Scholarships for Skilled Trades are looking for responsible, hardworking, dedicated people who:

  • Are Canadian citizens
  • Meet college admission requirements;
  • Are enrolling in their first year of a full-time, eligible one-year certificate or two-year diploma skilled trades program at a participating college starting in Fall 2025; See full list of eligible programs below.

Selection Criteria

You must meet the following criteria to be in contention for the scholarship:

  1. Strong work ethic and character, as evidenced by one letter of recommendation by someone directly connected to you, preferably:
    1. High school staff member
    2. Employer
    3. Co-worker
    4. Community service organization
  2. Financial need as determined by the college’s Student Financial Services department;
  3. Willingness to act as an ambassador and promote their career choice in the skilled trades and the Schulich Builders program in high schools and community outreach

The college may include supplemental criteria that it considers relevant, such as an interview, an additional reference letter, and the student’s high school transcript, provided that the College may give preference to applicants who were nominated for the scholarship by their high school or community service organization.

Application Checklist

Complete Centennial College’s online application form for the Schulich Builders: Scholarships for Skilled Trades and submit:

  • A letter of recommendation
  • A short essay telling us about your passion for skilled trades and why you deserve this scholarship.
  • Your completed budget template
  • A portrait photograph of yourself along with your permission for your photo to be used

Renewal Criteria

To maintain the scholarship, recipients need to successfully complete each semester, without the need for a specific minimum average, and must remain enrolled in the program and college full-time while actively participating in their studies and fulfilling course requirements. All applicants will be notified of a decision by email or phone call prior to the start of the Fall semester.
