Taking Care of Your Mental Health

What is Mental Health?

Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.

In other words, mental health is:

  • Our ability to respond to challenges
  • Our ability to bounce back and stay on course
  • A state of mind that allows you to cope with the endless challenges of life

Need some help?

Throughout your time in the college you may experience ups and downs, where it is important to find a balance between studies and life. As an international student, especially, you may be stressed or anxious about this new education system, being away from home, or adjusting to life here in Canada. Centennial College offers a number of services to help guide you through your journey of coping with the bumps in the road. Visit the Centre for Accessible Learning and Counselling Services (CALCS) at your campus and see how they can help.

KEEP.MESAFE

To supplement the care you receive from Centennial College's CALCS professionals, you also have access to the keep.meSAFE student support service. It allows you to connect with an counsellor over the phone or online, to talk about any issue – big or small – that may be affecting you in your own language. This service is free, confidential (within the limits of the law), and is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and in over 200 languages.
