Centennial College is flying its flags at half-mast today, Tuesday and Wednesday in memory of the innocent lives lost last Friday in a horrific terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand. At least 50 people were killed and 50 wounded in a hate-filled rampage targeting two mosques in the community.
Once again, we are reminded as compassionate humanitarians and educators that it is important to remain committed to helping those who are desperate to find a better life free from the grips of terror.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at (Canada) reminds us that Islam forbids all forms of terror and extremism. The founder of Islam, the Prophet Muhammad, placed a strong emphasis on protecting places of worship.
For those of you who may need support during this difficult time, we would like to remind you that we have counselling and referral services for students available at all campuses through our Career and Counselling Centres. For staff, our employee assistance provider (EAP) offers confidential counselling and referral. For EAP support, please call 1-800-387- 4765.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the shooting victims and those recovering in hospital. Let us keep the victims of all terrorist attacks, and those refugees displaced by hatred and war, in our hearts.
