Centennial College has a proud annual tradition of marking Remembrance Day. Each November 11, Centennial students and staff have organized and attended meaningful ceremonies at their own home campuses in honour of the Canadian men and women in uniform who fought and died for our freedom.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year we are proud to present the very first unified, virtual Centennial College Remembrance Day event. This pre-taped service was created with the assistance of our Story Arts Centre faculty and students, along with our Paramedic students, and is hosted by our Journalism and Sports Journalism students.
Please join Centennial student emcees Sabra Ismath, Jack Adams and Abdulhamid Ibrahim, along with a message from President Craig Stephenson. They will introduce you to some of the heroes and heroines in Canada’s military history, including:
- Three women officers who became Canada’s first female fighter pilots in the 1980s.
- An Indigenous Olympic champion runner who later carried messages in the trenches in the First World War.
- A Toronto bird watcher who joined up to fly bombers and sink enemy ships during the Second World War.
Please wear a poppy, if you are able. You can also create and download your own digital poppy here.
