Dear Centennial Students,
I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences to those of you who may be deeply affected by the news of slain Seneca student, Kartik Vasudev, who was brutally murdered outside Sherbourne subway station this past Thursday.
Kartik, 21, left his home near Delhi, India in January to pursue his dream of studying marketing here in Canada. His parents now mourn his loss, a pain no parent should ever have to endure. Although of little consolation, we are relieved to learn that the perpetrator has since been apprehended by Toronto police.
We understand that some of you may be feeling unsafe or anxious, particularly those of you who have left your homes and communities and travelled far to pursue higher education and advance your career goals here in the GTA. Please know that the College community is here for you. We have listed below resources for those of you who might just want to reach out for a listening ear or talk through your concerns, observations and fears.
Centennial Student Gathering
Centennial College is planning a gathering to grieve the tragic passing of, and honour and reflect on Kartik’s life. While a date has not yet been confirmed, those of you who wish to pay your respects can register on our event page to be notified on event details.
This gathering will be hosted by Student Life, Engagement and Development, the Centre for Accessible Learning and Counselling Services, the Centre for Global Citizenship Education and Inclusion, and the Centennial College Student Association Inc.
If you would like to donate to support Kartik’s family, a GoFundMe page has been established with the goal of raising $75,000.
