Hard work, talent and perseverance prevailed as Centennial College won the Ontario College Athletics Association (OCAA) Men’s Badminton Team Championships 2022-23 title and banner last week at Seneca College. This is the first time that Centennial has earned the provincial Men's Team Championship title since the awards were established in the 2012-13 season.
Leading the charge was Colin Zhou, who dominated Men's Singles during the two-day competition without losing a single game. In addition to winning gold in Men's Singles, Colin was named an East Division All Star, the East Division Male Athlete and the OCAA Male Athlete of the Year.
Vishal Dave won silver in Men's Singles, winning all of his games until he competed against Colin in the finals. This is the first time since 2009-10 that the gold and silver medalists hail from the same college, and our first Men’s Singles gold since 2005-06.
Colts athletes Denise Scott and Ninh Le won a very close three-game battle to advance to the final gold medal round where the pair collected a silver medal in Mixed Doubles, and Adam Wilson and Brandon Cheung won the bronze in the Men's Doubles to secure Centennial's third medal of the OCAA Provincials.
Our Colts Men’s badminton team heads to Halifax for the national championships hosted by Dalhousie University on March 9 to 11. We wish them well!
