Robert (Bob) Mahabirsingh, a Centennial College professor from the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science, was named a National Champion in weightlifting in his category at the Canadian Masters Weightlifting Championship, held the weekend of July 14 to 16 in Midland, Ontario.
Hosted by Weightlifting Canada Halterophilie Masters, the event brings together athletes aged 35 and older and sees male and female participants compete well into their eighties. Mahabirsingh competed in the Men’s 60+ category and finished in first place by weight class.
Mahabirsingh has been training at the Centennial College Athletic and Wellness Centre for the last five years for the sport of Weightlifting. Also known as Olympic-style weightlifting, it is the barbell sport that takes place at the Olympic games.
