Description | This course is a continuation of the Drafting/AutoCAD course from the first semester. The purpose of this course is to introduce the students to the 3D modeling concepts using the SolidWorks application (delivered through the ClassAPPS environment using any Internet browser, no local installation required) in two 2-hour sessions/week. The course is based on the industrial standards used in developing proper engineering drawings as well as the techniques employed in creating robust 3D representations of part and assembly models following the design intent concept. Basic design principles for Injection Molding and Sheet Metal design are introduced in this course as well. The students will also learn how to fully document the design in 2D drawings using views, dimensions and specifications. In addition to the 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation topics, basic data management principles will be taught in a managed environment using the top-level Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solution – Siemens Teamcenter PLM – integrated with SolidWorks (and other applications). Product Lifecycle Management is at the core of the business processes of every company, and in all industry areas. Jobs in: Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance/Control, Procurement, Planning, Maintenance (and so on) - require the applicants to have at least basic data management knowledge/experience. Siemens Teamcenter PLM is the dominant system used in the Aerospace, Automotive, Pharmaceutical and virtually all other industries. |
