Acute and Chronic Illness Theory

Description

The focus of this course is to allow students to gain an understanding of the client and family experiences living with acute and chronic illness. Students will critically explore the impact of illness on beliefs and behaviors with a view to fostering health within the illness experience. Concepts that will be covered in this course include chronicity, rehabilitation, illness trajectory, altered mobility, crisis, loss and grieving, palliation, acute and chronic pain, body image/stigma, quality of life, anxiety, confusion, and depression. Students will have an opportunity through research, group discussion and independent study to expand their knowledge base of various client care situations in the area of acute and chronic illness.
