Description | The student will develop knowledge of the various alternations in human body function from a variety of pathophysiological topics that serve as the basis of study. The selection of the health states and their subsequent alterations is determined by the potential threat to life they present, and the statistical evidence of their frequency within the area of prehospital emergency client care. The theoretical framework includes the main concepts of crisis, the adaptation of the body by way of compensatory mechanisms, the failure of these compensatory mechanisms and the resulting physiological manifestations. The development of the manifestations of these compensatory and decompensatory consequences form a required knowledge base for determining the effects and/or potential life threat to an individual. The student will be required to identify such manifestations and explain the physiological basis for their occurrences. |
