Description

This course is the first of two calculus courses taken by all mechanical engineering technician and technology students in the second year of their program. A preliminary review of the concept of a function, its domain, range and graph leads to the introduction of the concept of limit of a function, and to the derivative of a function as a limit (from which all rules for differentiation follow). The rules for differentiation are introduced, and then utilized to differentiate algebraic functions The course also incorporates an introduction to the conic sections and their analysis. Throughout the course, emphasis is given to the applications of the differential calculus to solving a variety of typical scientific and technical problems
