Description
Students who complete this course are prepared for college and university career programs requiring knowledge of more advanced biological concepts. The course examines the following: - diversity of organisms on earth - the newer classification schemes using genetic similarities - interdependence between species - the role of human activities in the holistic environment - human genome project - pros and cons of the use of biological and genetic applications for the advancement of society in medicine, industry, esthetics - destruction and recovery of the earth's biodiversity The material is taught in lecture mode with some laboratory exercises that require follow-up work at home over time. Students are expected to do a considerable amount of independent research in the library or on the internet.
