| Description | Communication is the foundation of working in the human services field. Students will learn about the roots of how and why they communicate; as well as deconstruct and build healthier, more mindful communication patterns. Students are presented with opportunities for self-reflection, self-analysis, and self-assessment, which are grounded in theoretical concepts to better understand their communication preferences. Through self-reflection and self-analysis students will gain a strengthened positive, respectful, and anti-oppressive communication response/style within themselves and in relating to others. Students will explore the role of perception, feelings, needs, and emotions to become efficient in developing interpersonal skills. Students will review Self-care as a strategy for healthy communication along with effective communication strategies in the digital world. |
