Description | The course builds upon the concepts that form the basis of modern chemistry and applies them to the stoichiometry of chemical reactions. Students will learn to solve problems involving stoichiometric relationships in balanced chemical equations. Calculations involving % yield and limiting reactants will be performed and placed in a commercial context. The course will demonstrate an understanding of the periodic trends in the periodic table based upon the quantum mechanical model of the atom. How the electron arrangement and forces in atoms cause elements to combine to form chemical bonds will be demonstrated. Investigation of the gas laws that explain the behaviour of gases, and how they will be used to solve related problems. The course will analyze the cumulative effects of human activities and technologies on air quality and investigate ways to reduce your carbon footprint. |
