||This course is designed for students in the Environmental Technician/Technology program, to evaluate, define and understand pollution in all its organic and inorganic forms found in air, water and soil. The pollution sources, types, adverse effects and remedial measures for pollution control will be the focus of the course. Structures and nomenclature of common hydrocarbons and related organic chemicals will be presented. Other environmentally related topics will involve renewable and non-renewable energy sources, classical and photochemical smog, CFCs, heavy metals, organic chemical pollutants, indoor air pollution and nuclear chemistry. Lab sessions will illustrate principles taught in lecture and will allow students to develop skills in detecting and quantifying pollutants and naturally occurring substances.
