Description | Child Centred Curriculum begins with responding to the interests and needs of young children (infancy through the preschool years). This course will focus on the importance of play as the foundation of all experiences in the early years. Building on the foundation course ECEP 102, students will continue to explore the importance of the environment and the role of the teacher in facilitating the experience of childhood through provocation. Students will develop the skills needed to create curriculum in a range of content areas including Creative Arts, Music and Language Arts. Using the principles of Reggio Emilia philosophy and emergent curriculum students will explore how the Early Childhood Educator constructs and implements inquiry based learning opportunities that are responsive and support the development of the whole child. Students will be introduced to the practise of pedagogical documentation as a tool to communicate and celebrate the experience of the child in the early childhood setting. This course has been updated to reflect the most current Ministry of Colleges and Universities Early Childhood Education Program Standard, November 2018. |
