Description

This course will enable a student to study the role of an Ontario Provincial Offences Clerk/Monitor in a courtroom setting. Students will learn courtroom decorum, principles and procedures, use approved guidelines and acquire skills to operate a courtroom as a Provincial Offences Clerk/Monitor. Students will use governing regulations, demonstrating the importance of confidentiality and sensitivity required in a court environment. 
Provincial Offences Clerk / Monitors typically open court, record evidence using analogue or digital recording and transcription systems, update computer systems, handle all documents and prepare papers for and during courtroom sittings. Guest speakers and field observations will complement this course. In addition, the Court Monitor Course within the CTSS program will complement this course.
