Communicating with Families

Course CodeKD-122
Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week
Course AvailabilityOpen
Description
The early childhood assistant has an important role on the child care team. One aspect of that role is being able to communicate effectively and supportively with families they meet in the childcare environment.   In this course e will look at what the word “family” means to us and others, and at the diversity of families the ECA is likely to meet.  We will focus on developing positive, respectful ways to communicate with families.  Students will learn about family structures and strengths, and some of the challenges busy families face when their child is in a childcare setting.  As well, students will learn how to apply what they have learned in this course to their interaction with the families they meet in the child care setting.
